Breeding planner
One pairing date gives every date to watch. The result updates as you type.
Nothing you enter is sent: your data stays on your device.
Defaults for the selected species: gestation 19 to 21 d, weaning 21 d, genotyping 14 d, maturity 42 d.

How it’s calculated
Method
Each date is the start date plus a duration. Birth follows the start by the gestation length, 19 to 21 days in the mouse. Genotyping, weaning and sexual maturity count from birth.
A window is shown only where a source gives one; elsewhere the tool uses the Colony.care app’s single value.
Limits
- Default durations vary with the strain and the facility. Edit them as needed.
- The 14-day genotyping age is an editable value with no single official source.
- In “Pairing” mode, the dates assume mating on the first night.
- The plug step is offered for the mouse and the rat only. For the rat the tool follows common practice (plug or vaginal smear), with no single source cited.
- The tool covers mammals with a gestation only. Birds, fish, Xenopus and social insects: the tool does not work out their dates yet.
Sources
- The Jackson Laboratory, “Colony Planning”: mouse gestation of 19 to 21 days, weaning at about 21 days, up to 28.
- The Jackson Laboratory, “Timed Pregnant Mice: Practical Tips for Improving Success”: plug checked the morning after pairing, early after lights on.
- CCAC, “CCAC guidelines: Mice” (2019, revised 2022): section 5.3.3, weaning at about 21 to 28 days or at 10 to 12 g, depending on the strain.
- Colony.care app defaults: one value per species for gestation, weaning and maturity.
